Judith has been working with Vopak Terminal Durban for ten years. She has just moved to Lesedi to work at Vopak’s new inland terminal as Transport Coordinator.

"I grew up in Durban and went to a local primary school, I was always interested in technical stuff. In 2008 a friend told me that Vopak was hiring with the intention to bring women into the industry, into Operations. I really wanted to be part of it.”

First women in Operations

“It’s over ten years ago but I remember very well how excited I felt to start working at Vopak, our learners group was so positive. We were the first women in Operations and we wanted it to be a success. I was employed permanently in May 2009 and I love working at Vopak, it changed my life. I have studied and I now have my degree in Operations management. Women are truly accepted in our workplace and that’s important.”

Significant next step

“I recently moved to Lesedi to work at our new terminal. Starting a new job here is very exciting. It’s a significant next step in my career and personal development. My goal for now is to do well in my new position as a Transport Coordinator - to become an expert in my role. I have the skills and my degree. I’ve worked on site as well as in the office, so I really know the company very well. We are starting with ten women in Operations: the 2018 learners from Lesedi. We have been training them on the job at Vopak Terminal Durban. We show and tell, we support them to make them successful, to pass it on.”
